On this episode, the second of our "Worldwide Entrepreneur" season, I got to interview Jimmy Scott the co-fiounder of KOY clothing.
KOY Clothing is the creation of two brothers, raised in Africa, on a mission to support the indigenous cultures of Kenya through luxury fashion.
Growing up in Kenya and going to boarding school in the UK gave them the platform to incorporate both worlds, with the potential to help elevate low income communities and support the country they grew up in and love so much. Surrounded by bright and beautifully coloured fabrics used by the Kenyan people, put together with the UK's markets, trends and fashions, presented an opportunity to combine authentic African fabric with the quintessentially British lifestyle.
KOY Clothing name all of their products after tribes in Kenya, such as the 'Maasai'. KOY Clothing, want to recognize the value of the 'Maasai' cultural brand, and therefore have become an official licensee, and 5% of all their 'Maasai' named product sales go to the Maasai out of respect to their indigenous culture that inspires their ‘Maasai’ designs.
KOY are working closely with the ‘African IP Trust’ to support the cultures that surrounded them growing up in Kenya, and to help elevate low income communities out of poverty.
